The Los Angeles Pool League is a voluntary organization of individuals committed to organize and supervise eight ball competition in an environment of fun and friendship. Membership is open to anyone who supports the goals and guidelines of the League. It is primarily a LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi, transgender) league but membership is open to anyone comfortable playing pool in a gay bar.
In the Spring of 1974 a group of individuals (see history) met and formed the Los Angeles Pool League. Since that time the organization has maintained two 10 week seasons (Spring and Fall) and a play-off schedule to pick winners.
Dues, fundraising events, some sponsors, and donations have provided the finances of the League. The League is governed by a seven member board elected by the members. The board elects the officers who’s job is to conduct the League’s day to day business and organize its events.
In 1980 the League became involved in association with the San Diego Pool Association and the San Francisco Pool League in a statewide event held yearly and named the West Coast Challenge (WCC). The Long Beach Pool League joined in 1986 (at WCC XII in LA) to round out the field to include the 4 major cities in California. This event has been held twice yearly (January and July), rotating between the cities.
Throughout the years, The LAPL has supported a variety of community charities (APLA etc.) with generous donations of time and money. This was recognized by our winning of the Thomas Waddell Sports Achievement Award presented by Christopher Street West in 1989.

Board of Governors
The Los Angeles Pool League is one of the oldest sports leagues in Los Angeles.
Since 1974, members have been gathering weekly to develop talent, build confidence and provide a community for amateur pool players in the greater Los Angeles area.
Run entirely by volunteers, the large group of members and participants in the League are proud to have developed champions on the local, state and national levels!
But even more importantly, they have provided a competitive, genuinely supportive and fun social experience for members, their friends and families.
Public charitable interests are also an integral part of what they have been doing for these last 37 years. Several local and national organizations such as Aid For Aids, Project Angel Food, and the Jeffrey Goodman Clinic benefit from our bi-weekly fundraisers. This work is essential to the League’s purpose and success.
Come join one of the friendly and competitive Billiard teams.
The League plays at various venues throughout the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley area. League night is Tuesday and practice begins at 7:00 pm. Play begins at 8:00 pm and generally lasts 2 to 3 hours.
The Spring 8 ball season runs for 10 weeks from late January to March as well as the Fall 8 ball season that runs 10 weeks from late August to November (both seasons are followed by Playoffs for the top 16 Teams).
In Summer, play an 8 week 9 ball season. All skill levels are welcome!!!
To help support the non profit group, semi weekly fund-raising Tournaments are conducted throughout both the Spring and Fall seasons. These fund-raisers offer attendees some competitive play and valuable practice while learning variations of 8 ball and 9 ball.
Most of the Tournaments are open to the general public. Remember, all skill levels are welcome!!!
Some of the bars sponsoring teams during the 2011 season are Gold Coast and Trunks Sports Bar in West Hollywood, Penthouse Billiards in Hollywood, Eagle LA in Silver Lake, Roosterfish in Venice, Oil Can Harry’s in Studio City, Oxwood Inn in Van Nuys and Paladino’s in Tarzana.
